Grants and funding to appoint threatened researchers to your institutes
Grants are awarded for research stays lasting up to 24 months. Please note that researchers cannot appply themselves. They must be nominated by a suitable institution.

RWTH Aachen University is a vibrant place where excellent research is being conducted. At the University's institutes, a large number of international doctoral students, postdocs and reseachers are active in teaching and research.
Our welcome services are targeted towards professors, visiting researchers, post docs, and doctoral candidates coming to RWTH Aachen from abroad. We offer advice and support during preparations for and throughout the stay and also help with all non-academic questions about the stay in Aachen.
Your registration with the Welcome Center
Via this link you can register with the Welcome Center and are then able to utilize our services. When you click onthe link, you will at first be asked to register with a valid Email address, then you need to authenticate yourself to get to the registration form via the login screen. Please note that your password needs to contain at least 8 characters, one of which has to be a number and another a symbol.
Preparing for Your Stay
Before you arrive we will inform you of visa and residence requirements and answer your questions about work permits and employment contracts. We have put together some information about life in Germany to optimally prepare you for your stay. You can find practical information, such as detailed information about driving and driver's licenses, as well as general information, for example about insurance.
After Your Arrival
After your arrival we will accompany you, if so desired, when taking care of necessary formalities and visits to authorities. Our focus here is on the non-academic aspects important for your start at RWTH Aachen and in Aachen.
Working closely with your host and the experts at the respective service offices, we coordinate the processes necessary for a smooth start at RWTH Aachen.
During Your Stay
During your stay we can help you with networking by letting you know about the offers from the various service and adivising offices at RWTH Aachen and the city of Aachen; and we can provide you with many helpful tips and ideas about life in Aachen. If your family is accompanying you to Aachen, we will be happy to put together information for you individually.
Before You Leave
At the end of the research stay, we will inform you of necessary formalities and visits to the authorities and put you in touch with the RWTH Aachen alumni network.
If you are hosting a scientist from abroad in your team, we offer you our support during preparations for the stay and while you are supervising the guest. Before your guest arrives, we advise you on the steps necessary for the invitation and possible hiring. We welcome your new international colleagues with a personal welcome package full of information about life and work in Aachen and accompany them, in arrangement with you, during administrative matters. We offer advising about questions regarding taxes and insurance and provide contact to the respective service offices at RWTH Aachen and the city of Aachen.
